The Bar Stool Preachers’ Last U.S. Show will be at Alex’s Bar

The Bar Stool Preachers are wrapping up their American tour at Alex’s Bar in Long Beach on Saturday, November 30th along with co-headliners and Orange County favorites Bite Me Bambi on the Spoonful of Ska tour. It hasn’t been an easy trip: after battling snowstorms that forced the cancellation of shows in Reno and Salt Lake City, BSP had to busk on the internet in hopes to make some gas and beer money. Lead singer Tom McFaull even offered to jump into a nearly frozen swimming pool if the band raised 300 quid. I’m still not sure if that happened. I personally thought it was a bad idea as he might catch pneumonia, but I still donated 20 pounds (26.83 USD) in hopes they would end their journey through the States on a high note—

If you’re unfamiliar with The Bar Stool Preachers, they’re a Brighton, UK-based band that’s part ska, part punk, and fully sing-along. Since their debut album, Blatant Propaganda in 2016, they’ve been staples at the Rebellion Festivals, often playing three sets over the weekend. Their reputation for electrifying live shows and creating a genuine connection with fans is well-earned, with their performances consistently being a highlight of the event. Their latest release, Above the Static, takes their sound to new heights, featuring sharp lyrics and heartfelt choruses that I think will be best sung just a little drunk.

They really are a great bunch—the boys posed for the photo above at last year’s Rebellion Festival, and we joked that bassist Karl Jeffrey, aka "Bungle," would be gutted not to be in it. After all, the egomaniacs here at In Spite Magazine love to use photos of bands holding their stickers. Lucky for me, though, I managed to secure a private shoot with Bungle later on—and we captured the masterpiece you see below. Keep an eye out for the trading card version in the future!
