Fall 2024 Motor City Comicon

I’ve been going to Motor City Comicon in Novi, Michigan, for decades, and it’s amazing. They attract the hottest actors, artists, authors, musicians, and more twice a year in the spring and fall. They always have the most amazing fans in attendance as well. In the early days, I was always after autographs and photos with actors from the original Star Wars films, but lately there have been even bigger draws. In recent years it was William Shatner (Star Trek), John Cleese (Monty Python), Danny Trejo (Machete), and this year it was Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm Street). The Comicon is so much more—but instead of words, I’m going to tell most of the story with photos.

The highlights this fall were both the people in costumes and meeting Barry Bostwick. For anyone that may not know, Barry played the iconic role of Brad Majors in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I’m a lifelong fan, having seen over 50 midnight showings in my lifetime. Barry was incredibly nice, did basically a small photo shoot, and then looked over the photos with me to make sure at least one was perfect. We talked about Rocky Horror, and he was just an all-around nice guy.

As usual, the booths were crammed with Funko Pops, autographed photos, hand-painted models, custom-made masks, enamel pins, trading cards, T-shirts, custom artwork, and more. It took nearly an hour to go through one pass of the entire show, and I did it twice. I was trying to get some impromptu photos, but every time I pointed the camera at anyone in costume, they stopped and posed.  Always a great time, I’ll be back again in May of 2025!
